A couple of weeks ago, we held our grand opening party weekend and its was an amazing success! The celebration was spread over two days with the kids kicking off the weekend with a free class open to all kids in the community. We had over 30 kids in attendance, most new to the sport of Jiu Jitsu / grappling. Everyone jumped right in and began learning moves, playing games, having fun and making new friends. It was awesome to see all the kids working hard and having fun.
On Sunday, we had another outpouring of support, love and friendship from across the PNW BJJ scene. The mats were packed with old and new friends and it was incredible to get to celebrate the opening of our new school with so many amazing people.
I can’t begin to thank everyone enough for all of the love and support. You all are amazing and I appreciate you all! A big thank you to Mike Baltierra (Mike Baltierra Photography) for his video of the event and to Nick Wong for his wonderful photos from kid’s day.
Our first official day in the gym is coming up on Monday October 7th. We are beyond stoked to get to training, meeting new friends and building an amazing team of people.
Address - 18623 Hwy 99 Ste 270 Lynnwood, WA 98037

New students and guests - Come in about 15 minutes early to get checked in and situated. Everyone gets a free trial class. From there we have several membership and drop in options, email us or ask at the front desk. We love having visitors, just bring a good attitude and a clean gi (or you can borrow one).
I can’t wait to share the new space with everyone, it is a dream come true after almost 20 years at this crazy game. Please come by to visit on our first day Monday October 7th, or any day. Our doors are always open for good training and good people.
Thanks so much,
Cindy
We will be open for business and running on full schedule Monday Oct.7!
After, almost 2 years of planning, a lot of direction changes, ups and downs, side swipes and successes, we have finally realized the goal of completing our own brand new, designed just for you, dream space.
Now comes the work of putting that space to the best use and creating the most amazing, vibrant and successful team we can. I want to thank each and everyone one of you who have supported myself and the team in moving this project to completion. A special thank you to Bob Jones and Riley for opening their home to the Sleeper Kids team and created a fun and consistent space for the kids to train during the 10 months of construction.
We will begin our full schedule of classes starting Monday Oct. 7th. The complete class schedule can be found here.
For new students, kids or adults, who are interested in trying out a class, please shoot us an email to schedule a trial class. We can’t wait to meet you and share the mats with you.
Current or returning students, please check out the schedule and come on in!
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to reach out
See everyone on soon!
Thank you all so much!
Much love,
Cindy Hales

Another video of the progress on our new Lynnwood location. We are nearing completion on the space and are excited begin offering martial arts and self defense classes to the Lynnwood / Edmonds / Shoreline area.
Please reach out for more information about how to join our team today!
The new Dollamur mats arrived this afternoon and thanks to some awesome friends, and a little heavy lifting, we got them up the stairs, through the door and into the space. A big thanks to everyone who came out to help get us one step closer to opening our school.
Painting is complete and we couldn’t be happier with the color scheme. They are finishing the fire escape, polishing and sealing the floor and installing the fixtures in the next few days.
The 2” Dollamur mats are scheduled to arrive on Wednesday 9/18.
We anticipate getting the final inspection and sign off from the city of Lynnwood by 9/23. Once this happens we will be ready to begin classes in the new space.
Realistically, we are shooting for Monday 9/30 as the first official day in the space but will move in unofficially, with the currently enrolled students, before if possible.
From there, we will begin training, get situated in our new home and begin planning when we can have our big grand opening celebration.
Please check back regularly to follow our progress.
We are beyond stoked to train with all of you very soon!
Girls in Gis held their first ever Advanced level seminar for female Brazilian Jiu Jitsu practitioners in the northwest. The event was hosted by Kindred Jiu Jitsu in Edmonds and was taught by northwest black belts, Cindy Hales of Sleeper Jiu Jitsu and Michelle Wagner representing Foster BJJ.
What made this seminar different from the ones previously held by Girls in Gis is that the techniques and concepts covered were primarily geared toward higher belts or more advanced grapplers. for techniques Michelle showed a slick and sneaky ankle lock set up followed by a heel hook from the same position. Cindy showed a bit of her Bora Bora system that included a back take, pass, hip lock, ankle lock and triangle and armbar.
Below are a couple of videos of the positions shown.
Please also check out Girls in Gis for more information on their programs, events, gear and scholarship opportunities.
Cindy sits down with Pocholo Cruz to chat about her BJJ career, teaching, competing, her new school Sleeper Jiu Jitsu, kids classes, and much more.

Hi all,
The new school project is moving along nicely and we are under a month out from completion. They have finished the drywall and will begin painting this week. From there, the bathroom fixtures, fire escape and ventilation will be completed.
As the construction project moves along, we are working tirelessly to ensure we create the best facilities possible for our students. We have ordered the mats from Dollamur and they are in production. The class schedule has been released (view it here) and we have begun signing up new members. We cannot wait to begin training with everyone and building our new team.
The anticipated soft opening date is scheduled for September 16th. We will keep everyone posted as we move closer to the open date.. Please check back regularly for updates and thank you so much for your support and patience.
